Executive Chairman of The Board
Dan Leff has extensive operating experience building, leading and restructuring global energy services businesses.
He recently served as chief executive officer and member of the board of directors of Hara, a global energy and sustainability enterprise software company. Previously, Dan was an Advisory Partner at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, where he worked actively with CD&R on sourcing and evaluating new transactions, as well as providing strategic insights related to CD&R portfolio company matters.
Formerly, Dan served at Invensys plc, a £7 billion worldwide manufacturing and services company, where he co-led a turnaround as co-COO and as COO of the Energy Management Division. Before joining Invensys, Dan was selected to be chairman and CEO of Enron Energy Services by the creditor-appointed management team to help the parent corporation following its 2001 bankruptcy filing. Earlier Dan was COO of Enron Energy Services and also led the restructuring of the parent company’s international power plant and pipeline engineering and construction business. Dan previously founded a forward-looking energy services company, which he sold to Enron in 1997. Prior to that he operated, acquired and sold a New York City-based energy services company.
Dan serves on the boards of a private company and non-profit organizations and has served on the board, audit and compensation committees of a publicly traded company. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York.
Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer
Mack Treece joined Viridity Energy in November 2012 as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for all day-to-day operations of Viridity, including marketing, operations and finance. Mack brings to Viridity Energy over 20 years of experience in senior management positions, with a specific focus on successfully scaling young companies into dominant market positions.
Previously, Mack was the CEO and co-founder of ConnectFN and was responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the company. Prior to ConnectFN, Mack served as President for Teliris, where he led the telepresence provider’s Global Sales, Marketing, Finance and Operations.
Prior to Teliris, Mack was responsible for the North and South American operations of Orange Business Services (OBS), a provider of advanced global IP and data services for multinational businesses. Mack also held several executive positions with increasing responsibility at OBS (formerly Equant) including Senior Vice President – Global Business Operations and Services, Senior Vice President – Partners and Channels, and CFO - Network Services. As a critical member of the team that took Equant public in 1998 in an IPO, Mack was a catalyst in growing the business from $200m in revenue to over $3b by 2002.
Mack began his career with Bell Atlantic, where he last held the position of Global CFO for Bell Atlantic International Wireless (BAIW) and Senior Vice President for Asia. He held several positions of increasing responsibility in his career with Bell Atlantic, including M&A, finance and operations positions. He has lived and worked abroad as part of global organizations for more than 25 years. He has a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Virginia and a MBA in International Finance from Widener University.
Chief Technology Officer
John McGee has overall responsibility for the technical vision, strategy and platform development that supports Viridity’s solutions for targeted customers and business sectors. John comes to Viridity with senior technical, operational, and general management experience in the industrial, energy and commercial sectors.
Previous to Viridity, John worked in the semiconductor, industrial process controls, building controls, facility management, energy storage and rail & transportation industries with General Electric, Johnson Controls, EMCOR, ABB, Ice Energy and Finmeccanica in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Italy and Ireland. Experienced in managing product lines and business units from development through commercialization and structuring operations for standardization and scalability, he has developed and executed successful plans for industrial, commercial, government, regulated, OEM and wholesale customers.
He served as Chairman of the Board of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA). He holds European qualifications in software development and several business disciplines as well as a U.S. MBA.
Executive Vice President, Sales
Eric Alam has over 25 years of experience in leading and managing businesses in the energy industry. He is skilled in the areas of sales force leadership and development, strategic business planning, financial and physical energy product development, trade and risk management, software sales and implementation, and mergers and asset integration.
Eric was a founding partner of Skipping Stone, an energy consulting firm and that has served the industry for over 12 years where he developed and led several practice areas.
As a member of the executive team at World Energy, a leading online energy exchange, he led a 300% growth in marginal revenue from 2007 to 2009 through the development and implementation of growth strategies in Sales and the streamlining of Operations.
Previously, Eric was part of the three member executive team that took Commerce Energy Group public and performed a $20M turnaround. While there, he developed the risk management infrastructure, led the company’s initial Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program and rebuilt the sales organization.
In addition to holding executive positions with Tenneco, Enron, and Pennzoil, Eric founded another strategic consulting firm to support activities which included executive mentoring and advisory services to energy CEOs and Executive Management teams.
Throughout his career, Eric has focused on end use sales with a particular interest in helping large customers optimize their position in the energy market.
Senior Vice President, Law and Public Policy
Allen Freifeld joined Viridity Energy as Senior Vice President, External Affairs in June 2009, after twenty five years of regulatory and industry experience including five years as a member of the Maryland Public Service Commission from 2004 through 2009. During his tenure on the Commission, Allen led the effort to enhance participation of energy efficiency and distributed resources in regional markets.
Allen served as Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Mid Atlantic Distributed Resources Initiative and was also a founder of the Organization of PJM States, Inc., a group of fourteen State Public Utility Commissions working toward regional solutions for electric grid issues. Prior to his appointment to the Commission, Allen served on the Staff of the Commission for over twenty years both as a Hearing Examiner and as Chief Staff Counsel. He also served as chief regulatory counsel for MCI Telecommunications in the mid‐Atlantic region during the period following enactment of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
Allen is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton, with a degree in Economics, and the University of Maryland School of Law.
