Dynamic Load Optimization
Viridity Energy has developed VPower™, an energy optimization platform that generates revenue for clients by enabling them to participate in wholesale power markets. Using VPower™, clients can maximize economic value through efficient use of distributed resources such as cogeneration, solar, energy storage systems and controllable loads, while simultaneously achieving sustainability objectives. Within a given electricity market, VPower™ allows clients’ controllable resources to appear to the Market Operator as a single, Virtual Generator optimized and ready to be dispatched into the capacity, day-ahead and real-time energy markets.
VPower™ combines proprietary load forecasting techniques, market pricing forecasts, advanced generation, storage and demanding forecast algorithms and a powerful optimizer to obtain day ahead and real-time run schedules fully integrated with wholesale power markets. Other considerations include weather-dependent renewable generation forecasts, as well as technical, contractual and environmental factors. The fully integrated VPower™ day-ahead price-sensitive forecast provides the wholesale energy markets with client load elasticity sufficient to achieve maximum market efficiency at the lowest market clearing prices.
VPower™
- transforms a portfolio of buildings and energy investments, based on a price-sensitive customer load forecast, together with “Behind-The-Meter” distributed generation and energy storage, into a unified, optimized power asset.
- interfaces readily to Distribution SCADA systems and most Building Management Systems and is able to communicate over standard protocols such as Modbus™.
The functionality and capability of the VPower ™ System mirror the capability of traditional utility energy management systems used to forecast and control generation on complex and integrated power systems.

Load forecasting
VPower™ forecasts load and generation up to ten days in advance, down to the last real-time interval and re-optimizes to the real time market on a 24 hour basis.
Generation forecasting
VPower™ integrates forecasting capabilities for renewable generation. Consequently, these resources can be integrated and coupled with other resources to maximize their value to the grid. For example, by integrating solar resources with battery storage or ice-making capabilities, customers and utilities can increase the value of these resources as an element of a distributed energy system.
Price forecasting
VPower™ has the capability of integrating day-ahead and real-time prices. This allows VPower™ to integrate forecast pricing into a customer’s dispatch schedule to assure economic value.
Unit Commit
VPower™ provides the capability for the customer to include custom system constraints (load control limitations, generation and purchase requirements) to support the conversion of load into a controlled resource on the grid.
Resource Optimization
VPower™ supports the predicted and dynamic optimization and operation of a customer’s distributed resources and curtailable load. Just as a traditional energy management system optimizes the scheduling of generation on the grid, the VPower™ System optimization engine uses the topology of a customer’s distributed resources and purchases from the grid to create an optimized and dynamic dispatch schedule.
Measuring, Validation and Reporting
VPower™ provides ongoing reporting and market analysis to address the challenges associated with the measuring, validation and reporting of load curtailments.
