Chief Technology Officer
Scott King leads Viridity’s technology software development, architecture, cloud and on-premise infrastructure platforms, and oversees product direction. Scott brings over 20 years of professional experience and leadership in energy, commodity and financial trading software, quantitative data analysis, wholesale power and natural gas markets, and production system support and controls. With a focus on efficiency, optimization, and automation, he has lead successful teams and initiatives in equity trading, data and software architecture, Agile implementations, cloud migrations, and decision support.
Scott originally joined Viridity in 2016 as Director of Software Platforms; prior to Viridity, Scott worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch with a focus on market data architecture and trading application support, and Hartigen Solutions, where he was lead architect and developer for the cloud-based RTO/ISO transaction management and decision support software PowerOptix. Scott also served as Head of Trading for Koch Industries’ private investment fund, where in addition to responsibility for daily trade execution, he worked as a financial data analyst and substantive contributor to quantitative equity long/short trading models and research.
General Counsel & SVP- Operations
Allen Freifeld joined Viridity Energy as Senior Vice President, External Affairs in June 2009, after twenty five years of regulatory and industry experience including five years as a member of the Maryland Public Service Commission from 2004 through 2009. During his tenure on the Commission, Allen led the effort to enhance participation of energy efficiency and distributed resources in regional markets.
Allen served as Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Mid Atlantic Distributed Resources Initiative and was also a founder of the Organization of PJM States, Inc., a group of fourteen State Public Utility Commissions working toward regional solutions for electric grid issues. Prior to his appointment to the Commission, Allen served on the Staff of the Commission for over twenty years both as a Hearing Examiner and as Chief Staff Counsel. He also served as chief regulatory counsel for MCI Telecommunications in the mid‐Atlantic region during the period following enactment of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
Allen manages all legal and regulatory matters for the firm, including contracting, litigation, RTO interactions and compliance with a variety of Federal/State requirements. In addition, he provides market-related advice and oversight to the Market Operations group.
Allen is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton, with a degree in Economics, and the University of Maryland School of Law.
Vice President, Finance
Mr. Haiat joined Viridity Energy in August 2017 as the Vice President of Finance. He is responsible for all day-to-day financial operations of Viridity. Mr. Haiat brings over 15 years of experience in senior financial management positions, mainly within the energy sector.
Previously, Mr. Haiat was the Director of Finance and the Risk Manager of Ormat Technologies Inc. Prior to Ormat, Mr. Haiat served in several financial positions in Israel Natural Gas Lines Ltd., most recently as Director of Finance.
Mr. Haiat is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a MBA in Finance from the University of Edinburgh Business School.
Head of Operations
Mr. Mike Pavo serves as Head of Operations for Viridity Energy Solutions, overseeing the daily market operations functions, the maintenance group and the asset management functions of both Viridity’s and customer’s managed assets.
Mike joined Viridity as General Manager, Network Operations Center in 2013, to oversee daily operations of the various energy markets in which Viridity serves customers. Prior to Viridity, Mike managed a speculative hedge fund for 8 years as a team member of Constellation’s Commodity Trading Desk, focusing on the eastern markets including Ontario, New York, New England, MISO and PJM. Mike also served as Portfolio Director with NRG Energy for almost 5 years where he managed NRG’s New England and PJM portfolios of over 3,500 MWs of merchant generation and load contracts.
Mr. Pavo also worked for almost two years with TransAlta Energy Marketing in Calgary, Alberta to build and develop their Eastern trading group. Additionally Mr. Pavo worked with SaskPower (NorthPoint Energy) to build their power marketing desk. He also gained extensive experience in power system operation, power system flows, and engineering-design-construction while working in various management roles within the company.
Mike earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
Human Resource Business Partner
Mr. Palermo is the Human Resource Business Partner for Viridity Energy Solutions, as part of the senior leadership team he guides the strategic direction for Viridity’s culture, employee engagement, learning and development, talent acquisition, compensation and employee relations.
Mr. Palermo has more than 25 years of HR leadership experience across many industries. Prior to joining Viridity, he was the director of human resources for Coim USA, a global chemical organization where he focused on providing strategic HR support to executive leadership, propelling business growth, and creating a dynamic workplace.
Throughout his career, Mr. Palermo has positioned HR as a strategic business unit focused on cultivating talent and supporting leaders.
Mr. Palermo earned his bachelor’s degree in business and human resources management from Saint Joseph’s University. In addition, he holds professional distinctions as a Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
Head of Utility-Scale Energy Storage Business Unit
Rahm Orenstein is the Head of Utility-Scale Energy Storage Business Unit. In his role, Mr. Orenstein leads our global growth in grid-connected energy storage projects, including project origination and development as well as project acquisitions.
Prior to this role, Mr. Orenstein was Ormat’s Vice President of Business Development for the Americas region, where he led all sales, marketing and business development activities for Ormat in that region. That included project origination, development, sales, sales support and government and regulatory affairs for Ormat’s geothermal, recovered energy generation, solar and energy storage solutions.
Mr. Orenstein has led the successful development of multiple renewable energy projects totaling hundreds of mega-watts in size and several $ billion in value.
Prior to joining Ormat in 2008, Mr. Orenstein spent 15 years in the telecom and medical devices industries, specializing in marketing, business development and sales.
Mr. Orenstein holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering (with honor) from the Tel-Aviv University, Israel and an MBA from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzeliya, Israel.
